Current Status:
The South Fork Complex is currently managed by Oregon Interagency Incident Management Team 4 (Brian J. Watts). The fire is 20 miles south of John Day.

Murderers Creek South
Fire:
The fire reached Jackass Creek yesterday on the northwest flank and continues to produce active torching. An alternative containment line is planned. Structure protection is in place at the Aldrich Lookout. Containment lines are established and holding on the west and south flanks of the fire. The fire spotted across the 2490 Road on the southeast side of the fire. Firefighters were able to construct dozer line around the spots. The fire remains east of the South Fork of the John Day River.

Retardant drops from fixed wing aircraft and bucket drops
from helicopters were utilized yesterday to limit fire spread to the south.
Buck Fork Fire:
Containment lines are holding on the east and west flanks of the Buck Fork Fire. The fire breached the primary containment line near Davis Creek on the north flank. An alternative containment line is being established on Rail Ridge. Firefighters are being challenged to hold the fire at Road 58 on the south flank due to steep terrain and potential spotting. The fire remains west of the South Fork John Day River.

Evacuations:
The Grant County Sheriff’s Department has issued a Level 1 Evacuation for the area south of Highway 26, west of 21 Road (Fields Creek) and east of 42 Road (South Fork of the John Day River).

Evacuations are based on a Level 1-2-3 system often referred
to as Ready-Set-Go, with Level 1 being the lowest. At Level 1, residents should be aware of the
danger that exists in their area and continue to monitor emergency services
websites and local media outlets for information. This is the time for preparation and
precautionary movement of persons with special needs and livestock.
